What does it mean that fragrances are of natural origin?
A fragrance is of natural origin when it is made up of more than 50% natural essential oils.
To give you an idea, in the vast majority of perfumes on the market this percentage is between 10% and 20%.
At MAAR we go further and our fragrances have at least 80% natural essential oils.
What are the advantages of natural fragrances?
A fragrance is made up of dozens of essential oils and each of these oils, in turn, is made up of a mixture of molecules.
When the oil is natural, the mixture of molecules is not fixed, since it depends on the species of the flower or plant, where it is cultivated or what year it has been harvested.
However, when the oil is synthetic, the aroma is fixed and simpler because it only reproduces those molecules responsible for the aroma that you want to imitate.
So MAAR fragrances, which have 80% natural essential oils, more realistically reproduce the aromas we find in nature, making them of higher olfactory quality.
What does it mean that 97% of the ingredients are natural?
The concentrated perfume of our fragrances has at least 80% natural essential oils. We mix this concentrate with water and organic alcohol, both natural elements, which gives us a final result of 97% natural components.
If 97% are natural ingredients, what is the other 3%?
The remaining 3% are safe synthetic components.
If our fragrances were 100% natural, we would greatly reduce the palette of odors that our perfumers can use, making the fragrances much easier. In addition, the aroma would last less time on your skin, since there are several synthetics that act as perfume fixatives, without there being an equally effective natural alternative.
Are synthetic ingredients harmful?
The word "synthetic" has earned a bad name that is not always deserved. In fact, in certain cases, they are a better alternative to the natural component:
- Some synthetic oils work very well as perfume fixatives, without an equally effective natural alternative.
- There are certain aromas, especially fruit, that we could not reproduce were it not for synthetics, for example, the smell of coconut or the smell of peaches.
Outside of these two cases we always opt for the natural alternative.
Of course, the synthetic components that we use in MAAR are totally safe and this excludes phthalates, the known endocrine disruptors.
In addition, we also do not use dyes or stabilizers (such as BHT), since we prefer not to dye the fragrance and to see it in its original color.
What ingredients does my fragrance contain?
You can check the ingredients that we use in each of our fragrances here , in addition to discovering their origin, how they are obtained or what aroma they have.
What is organic alcohol?
Organic alcohol does not contain pesticides, chemical fertilizers, nor does it come from genetically transformed seeds. The one we use at MAAR comes from organic wheat grown in Italy. With fewer chemicals, alcohol is more neutral and fragrance scents are better perceived.
Are MAAR fragrances organic?
The alcohol we use is organic and represents 82% of the total volume, so yes, our fragrances are organic in a large proportion.
Are MAAR fragrances vegan?
Of course! They are suitable for vegans because they do not have any animal components, such as beeswax or ambergris.
Do you test on animals?
No, we never have and never will test on animals.
Animal testing has been banned in the EU for years, however it remains mandatory in China.
In July 2019 the European Commission has prohibited the use of the cruelty-free concept as a commercial claim, as it is a mere European legal compliance.
However, the reality is that all those brands that sell in China continue to test animals, usually irritation tests on skin and eyes on bunnies.
The only option to sell in China without testing on animals is to either sell through the internet (without a physical channel) or to manufacture fragrances within China so that they do not have to be imported. It is in the power of the big brands to choose one of these two options for these cruel tests to end.
What concentration of perfume do you use?
The concentration of perfume in our fragrances is 15%.
And this, is it little or a lot? In the world of perfumery we distinguish between Eau de Cologne, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and Parfum, depending on the concentration of perfume contained in the fragrance. An Eau de Cologne is considered to have a concentration of 2-4%, an Eau de Toilette of 5-14%, an Eau de Parfum of 15-20% and a perfume of 20-30%.
How long do MAAR fragrances last?
Our fragrances have a high concentration of essence, so the duration in skin is prolonged, between 7 and 8 hours, although this may vary depending on how you apply it and how hydrated your skin is.
In order for your fragrance to accompany you throughout the day, we recommend that you apply it to the pulse points, that is, wrists, neck and on the inside of the elbows. Also, if you want, you can spray a little on your hair or your clothes. Another recommendation is to hydrate your skin beforehand, with a very light aroma cream, so that it does not mix with the aroma of the fragrance.
Where do you manufacture the fragrances?
We make the essences in France and we do the maceration and packaging in Barcelona.
Where are your suppliers from?
80% of our suppliers are Spanish and the remaining 20% are European (French and Italian).
